Twin's 60th Birthday Cake

My Dad and Uncle's Birthday Cake.  Peanutbutter cake with chocolate mousse and chocolate buttercream, very yummy flavor combo!

A Pirate's Treasure

This is a birthday cake for our 4 year old nephew.  One layer of vanilla, one layer chocolate cake with chocolate mousse filling.   The last picture was my first attempt at the ship, obviously the cake was too soft so I ended up making and sculpting rice cereal treats, then covered in fondant and decorated.  The treasure chest is also sculpted from rice cereal treats.  The colored treasure is ring pops and the clear silver I made from isomault sugar...they were clear and diamond like when I made them but a few days later they turned cloudy.  The sail is gum paste and the pirate/flag is lego toys.  The pirate head is chocolate that I was experimenting with.

Anniversary Cake

40th Wedding Anniversary Cake.  This is an almond cake filled with 3 layers of raspberry filling and almond buttercream!  Yum, the raspberry cuts the sweetness of the buttercream.  The flowers are made from gumpaste (my first attempt at gum paste roses) and this is also my first attempt at piping a swag design.  This cake is traveling 6 hours in the car so I really hope the couple likes it!

I have decided that piped writing is now my biggest challenge....well, other then getting a smooth finish with buttercream.

Monkeying Around!

This is a Italian Fresh Fruit cake with Whipped Cream Icing.  I made a sponge cake layered with fresh strawberries and peaches.  Because the icing is cream it is not as smooth or sturdy as buttercream.  The Birthday girl likes monkey's and butterflies, both are made out of fondant.

Topsy-Turvey Birthday Cake

This is for two 1 year old boys.  This cake was a challenge and required some carving and careful stacking but for my first time I think it turned out alright.  The bottom layer is chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream, middle layer is red velvet and top is vanilla and vanilla.  Whole thing is covered and decorated in fondant.  The two smash cakes are vanilla and chocolate.  Delivery was interesting but we made it there without any damage!

The Very Hungry Caterpillar

1st Birthday Party.  The head is Red Velvet cake with Cream cheese icing and the cupcakes are white cake with lemon filling and lemon buttercream, topped with fondant fruit that the Caterpillar ate through.  The cake is covered with fondant and then I brushed on food coloring to get the bright red color.

Golfing Slot Machiene Anniversary Cake

This is a chocolate cake with peanut butter buttercream and was very yummy!  The husband enjoys golfing and the wife likes trips to the casino so I tried to incorporate both hobbies.  Actually my husband came up with this design.  This cake was challenging, wish I had more time to perfect the details and make it perfect.

Mother's Day Heart Cake

I made this cake with the heart shaped pans passed down to me from my grandmother. It is lemon cake, strawberry filling and lemon icing.  The roses I made from starburst candy and I stenciled the design with eatable luster dust.  Happy Mother's Day!

Easter Lamb Cake

My grandmother handed down this Lamb pan to me and I was so honored!  I hope to make her proud with this cake.  This Easter Lamb cake is a lemon pound cake covered in butter cream.  I made cupcakes with the leftover batter and sprinkled a few flowers and jelly beans on the grass.  The egg ears are another story.  I made these ears for some bunny cup cakes I was planning on making but the peanut butter cupcakes turned out horribly (I think because I used unsalted/organic peanut butter).  I was going to make a new batch to finish the bunny cakes but then my son got sick so I scrapped the whole project and used the ears for this cake since I don't like things going to waste!  Happy Easter :)

Cali Lily Fondant Cake

This is a Banana Cake covered in fondant that I made at my class.  We learned how to make gum paste cali lilly's so I put this together quickly and froze the cake for later use on sculpting projects.

Thomas the Train Birthday Cake

This cake is for my nephew's 3 Birthday.  It made my day when he said a few times that he loved this cake!  This was so much fun to make.  The cake is my first strawberry cake and it got good reviews.  I used a 16 inch pan that hardly fit in my oven...so I had to cook it on the top shelf which posed a bit of a problem..but I was able to piece the cake together and nobody noticed the flaw's.  Thoma's face was probably my 6th attempt but I loved the way it turned out.   I carved the trains out of cake and covered with fondant.  The water is piping gel tinted blue over blue fondant.  Track is twizzlers, rocks are 2 different candy and the mountain is part of a stacked round cake covered in crushed chocolate wafer cookies.
